a series of 9 videos

Hora is the second chapter of the ongoing series It Could Have Been… Gold, filmed in March 2025 in the Romanian village of Schela. This documentary series focuses on in-depth interviews with local villagers, who share memories of the traditional bals—festive dances that were central to community life—and discuss how these practices are gradually fading today.
Through these testimonies, the film explores themes of memory, cultural transmission, and the social role of dance in rural communities. Each portrait captures personal stories, gestures, and reflections, creating a vivid record of a disappearing cultural practice.
Hora also serves as the foundation for the next project, The Bal, where the Hora will be reimagined in a contemporary dance film with active participation from the community.
