Dansul Satului

2024
Video. 30’

Directed by Frédéric Liver

Through a series of encounters with workers, their environment, and their activity, "It could have been... gold" is a series of portrait films exploring apprenticeship. Dansul Satului, the first film in the series, plunges us into the Romanian village of Schela. Like a diary, it shows the life of the village, its inhabitants, and the work they do day after day. We meet Cristi, a stone wall builder, and Emil, a craftworker. We made a wall, and a wooden railing and celebrated Madalin's birthday. In the old days, the village held a dance party every Sunday. The elders used to observe the younger ones, and if someone saw that a guy was a good dancer, they thought he was a good worker. The name was "hora satului".
